Oregon lacks tools to address economic slowdown, economists say
The Oregonian reports that State Economist Tom Potiowsky is warning that Oregon lacks the means to respond to a significant budget shortfall if the economy turns south
Until recently, Oregon lacked a reserve fund to help protect vital state services when tax revenues fall. As it stands, Oregon's reserve of $319 million will cover only a fraction of the revenues lost in the event of a serious recesson.
