Former AG Alberto Gonzales Having Trouble Landing Lucrative Job

Its only been days since it became public that the highest officials in American government signed off on torture in the days after 9/11, pending "a legal opinion” which was helpfully authorized by White House Counsel, Alberto Gonzales in the "torture memos. Now the" New York Times reported over the weekend that former Attorney General Gonzales, "like many others recently unemployed," is having trouble getting a new job. What job-hunting advice does Gonzales need?

The problem is probably not his blind conservatism, questionable legal ethics, possibly illegal conduct, firing US Attorneys for political reasons, or his lies to Congress. Nor is it has famously limited powers of recall. After all, other former Bush top lawyer are raking in job offers.

Last week, the Legal Times reported that other Bush administration lawyers are finding lucrative jobs with private law firms and corporations, where salaries can reach "all the way to comfortably within seven figures." Former Attorney General John Ashcroft, was once a Missouri Senator and religious conservative who lost his last election to a dead man. As Attorney General he lobbied for the “ Patriot Act” and supervised as career lawyers at the DoJ were replaced by cronies and idealoges. Yet he has gone on to found own consulting firm, and is a "distinguished professor of law and government" at Regent University, the sorta-law school founded by Pat Robertson.
