Shaufler used campaign funds for beer money?

State representative, Mike Schaufler (D-Happy Valley) used $12,000 in campaign funds for several non-campaign related expenses, including using his home as personal office space and beer money, the Oregonian reported on Wednesday.

Schaufler, who has blocked several Democratic-led reforms in the house, including attempts to study greenhouse gas emissions and a legislative attempt to fix Oregon's land use laws (these were subsequently referred) is unapologetic about the expenses:

"I don't make any money doing this job," Schaufler said. "You give me a living wage, and I'll spend all my per diem -- rather than campaign money -- on food, lodging and travel."

State legislators are currently paid $26,000 in expenses and salary during their six-month tenure in the legislature.
