Donna Nelson to run for County Commissioner

State Representative Donna Nelson filed earlier this morning to run for Yamhill County Commissioner.

Nelson, who narrowly retained her legislative seat in 2006, had previously indicated that she would not seek re-election to the state legislature. She will face incumbent Commissioner, Leslie Lewis in Yamhill County's non-partisan primary this May.

Nelson was apparently recruited to run by State Senator Gary George, whose wife, Kathy, is one of three members on the commission. George has supported Lewis in the past, but relations have strained in recent years over transportation issues, notably Lewis' advocacy for the Newberg-Dundee bypass, and her opposition to a tourist train supported by George.
